WTC Deploys TANDBERG Distance Learning Consortium
A 10 site South Dakota-based distance learning consortium conducts multiple videoconferences
daily to expand teacher expertise across a widely dispersed student population. Founded in the
late 1990's, the consortium's classroom-based studios had become brittle and difficult to control.
The legacy codecs were no longer being manufactured, and software revisions were unavailable.
Over several months, WTC worked closely with the consortium Director to design fundamental room upgrades
built around the TANDBERG 6000 codec platform. In addition to the TANDBERG codecs, a PC-based, customized,
touch-sensitive Crestron control solution was built as a standardized interface for all instructors and
students within the consortium. The new rooms can run in either Smart Classroom or Distance Learning mode,
allowing participants and instructors one-touch access to video, data or document/object content.
The superior agility of the TANDBERG codec was instrumental in creating a stable, flexible learning environment.
