Sioux Falls Manufacturing Operation Opts for Local MSP
The Scenario
The Mitographers, Inc., a Sioux Falls-based screen printing company, needed to maximize
network up-time to support shop floor data collection, employee timeclock, and e-customer
service for 6 day/week, 3 shift/day operations. In the past, the company relied upon an
expensive private network connection to an MSP in Minneapolis, MN. The arrangement helped
with up-time, but was expensive and often required dispatch of a local firm.
The Solution
Workplace Technology Center, Inc. (WTC), a Sioux Falls-based IT consulting services firm and
MSP, proposed a local MSP arrangement with the Mitographers. A secure Cisco-based VPN solution
was developed, using DSL and private line Internet connections from differing ISP's. As part of
the arrangement, several critical customer workstations and multiple fileservers are monitored and
supported on a fixed-fee contract. In addition, broadband access and firewalls are monitored from
the WTC Network Operations Center.
The Result
The manufacturing firm reports significant cost savings and improved responsiveness from the
arrangement with the local MSP. In addition, WTC has consulted on recent network upgrades and
software deployments, many of which may actually reduce the overall number of servers under
management. Management has reported a high degree of satisfaction with the arrangement.
