Regional Law Firm Chooses Local Consultant and MSP
The Scenario
After years of poor network performance, The Morgan Theeler Law Firm located in Mitchell,
South Dakota decided to make an investment in infrastructure that would last 4 or more years
and provide more features than the current network would support. The firm had recently hired
some younger attorneys, and was interested in providing remote access to the offices as well
as PDA's and improved calendar management. Ultimately the firm was looking for a solution
that would have a known support budget.
The Solution
The law firm contracted with Workplace Technology Center, Inc. (WTC), a Sioux Falls-based IT
consulting services firm and MSP, to design the upgrade alternatives. Choosing from several
alternatives presented, the firm ultimately deployed a dedicated Microsoft Small Business Server,
mostly to take advantage of the Exchange and Outlook Web Access features. WTC managed the hardware
and software procurement through a competitive bid process. Secure, dedicated connectivity was
established via VPN using Cisco firewalls over DSL and cable modem
The Result
The law firm reports that the network is in place, stable, and performing well. The implementation
was performed on-time and within budget. The firm has opted for an ongoing management contract
with WTC for both servers and workstations. In the future, the MSP arrangement may be streamlined
to include only the fileserver.
